NS Greens Turnout to Support Government Employees

Thursday, December 13, was the kickoff for Pat Quinn's gubernatorial re-election campaign. Quinn, a Democrat, is building his campaign around opposition to collective bargaining and European-style austerity.

Quinn has dropped collective bargaining agreements with State employees and has been demanding that retired employees surrender part of their pensions. The unions refused to agree, citing a provision in the Illinois State Constitution protecting the rights of retired employees. Among those targeted by Quinn and his allies are the state's police and fire personnel, as well as teachers and civil servants.

Northside Greens have supported pension rights and collective bargaining for both private and public sector employees. A majority of NSG members marched with employees Thursday.
