George Monbiot says the US is acting like a failed state in regard to the climate change issue. He is critical of the Waxman-Markey climate change bill.
The cuts, says Monbiot are inadequate. He is particularly upset that the bill actually forbids the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating coal burning power plants, such as Fisk and Crawford, in Chicago. Greens have been upset over the continued operation of Fisk and Crawford for years. Some are also upset because two Illinois Representatives are said to have inserted language at the last moment defining nuclear power as "renewable."
According to Monbiot, little better can be expected from the US: "This bill is the best we're going to get for now because the corruption of public life in the United States has not been addressed."
