Open Everything Day is set for April 18. On that day, events will be taking place at various locations around the world. Here in the midwest, an Open Camp is planned for Madison Wisconsin.
There will be four tracks:
- Content (Art, Media, Music, etc)
- Technology (FOSS, open standards, interoperability, accessibility)
- Non-Governmental Organizations (Non-Profits, User Groups, etc)
- Anything Goes (Education, Government, Journalism, etc.)
The main event, Open Everything NYC 2009 is also set for April 18. The event will take place at UNICEF Headquarters in New York City. Leslie Hawthorn (Google) will be the keynote speaker.
According to event organizers: "Open Everything (global site) is a collection of events scattered all over the world, organized by ordinary people just like you. The purpose of the event is to explore and discuss 'open'. The interpretation of the idea is in the hands of attendees, and each event differs from the next."
An underlying theme behind this movement is that we live in the age of information. That means full citizenship belongs only to those who have access. The goal of this movement is to make sure that everyone in the world can participate.
